Team Tesori won its second straight Tesori/Mulherin Cup with a 12.5-7.5 win over Team Mulherin on Aug. 18. The season-ending competition for Central New York PGA Junior Tour players took place at Bellevue Country Club.
Members of the winning Team Tesori were: Brayden Thomas, Patrick O’Connor, Isabella Borte, Kevin Waters, Jon Shoults, Topher Shoults, Rachel O’Rourke, Ashton Ricci, Frankie Barbuto, Nathan Close, Clara DeFillips, and Payne Wood.
Team Tesori got off to an early lead and maintained a cushion over Team Mulherin to repeat as champion.
Team Mulherin players included: Tom Neave, Gabriella Dardis, Jacob Olearczyk, Chloe Tice, Evan Cooper, David Ahn, Drew Kippen, Ellie Kent, Brooke Lyon, Lindsay Chong, Dan Young, and Dan Johnson.
PGA of America Members Joe Tesori (The Pompey Club) and Linda Mulherin (Drumlins Country Club) served as honorary captains for their respective teams.
Besides the Central New York PGA, tournament sponsors included Bellevue Country Club, the Esther Cannizzo Junior Golf Foundation and Bernard’s Custom Logo.
Boys and girls point leaders from the 2024 CNY PGA Junior Tour season and winners from the Junior Tour Championship were eligible to play.
The concept of the Tesori/Mulherin Cup is a match play team event similar to the Ryder Cup. The event also was established to celebrate the accomplishments of CNY PGA hall of famers Tesori and Mulherin, who have played an integral role in junior golf for many years.
The tournament format consisted of six fourball holes, six holes of modified alternate shot and six holes of singles match play.
