Delaney Abel won the girls title in a playoff and Ryan Thompson took home the boys crown at the Junior Apogee Investment Management Championships on May 3-4.

Competitors preserved through intermittent rain and damp conditions to play in the fifth annual event. The first round of the 36-hole event for male and female junior players ages 12-18 was held at Mark Twain Golf Course in Elmira and concluded at Soaring Eagles Golf Club in Horseheads.

The presenting sponsors for the Junior AIM Championship are Apogee Investment Management and DeFrancisco & Falgiatano Law.

Abel, of Corning, needed four playoff holes to earn the girls championship over Kamryn Yerman, of Frankfort. Yerman and Abel finished tied at 158 at the end of regulation.

Although Abel earned first-round medalist honors with a 76 at Mark Twain GC, her 82 at Soaring Eagles opened the door for Yerman, the 2024 Central New York PGA Girls Junior Player of the Year.

Yerman made par on her last two holes to finish with a 76 which tied her with Abel to force a playoff. Neither Abel nor Yerman was aware they were tied at the end of regulation until notified by tournament officials.

As the girls champion, Abel earned an entry to the 2025 Women’s AIM Championship.

In the boys division, Thompson fired rounds of 69 and 72 and led from start to finish. He finished at 3-under-par 141, five strokes ahead of runner-up Tanner LaTorre, of Nassau.

Thompson, a three-time individual sectional champion for Section Five’s Addison High School, carded six birdies against three bogeys in round one. With the win, Thompson earned an exemption into the 2025 Men’s AIM Championship.

Drew Mancini, of Auburn, finished third (153).

The Junior AIM is double point CNY PGA Junior Player of the Year and Tesori/Mulherin Cup event.
