The election of a District IV Director was among the highlights of the Central New York PGA’s Fall Meeting of Membership on Oct. 20 at Turning Stone Resort Casino’s Shenandoah/Kaluhyat Clubhouse.

PGA of America Golf Professional Sean Dadey (Drumlins Country Club) won the majority vote on the third vote and will become the new District IV Director, taking over for Tim Fries, PGA.

Also on the ballot for the District IV Director position were Stanley Gorman, PGA (Pompey Club), Steve Nacewicz, PGA (Crestwood GC) and CNY PGA President William Weimer, PGA (Stone Creek GC).

Each candidate spoke to the CNY PGA Membership in attendance prior to the vote. Dadey will represent three PGA Sections as District IV Director; CNY, Western New York and Tri-State.

The Fall Meeting also included elections for two Section Board of Director seats. Nominated candidates Ryan Evans, PGA (Binghamton CC) and Ryan McGinnis, PGA (Turning Stone Resort Casino) were appointed by acclamation.

There were two breakout sessions: State Golf Alliances and Member Engagement.

The discussion panel on the State Golf Alliances was headed by GCSAANY Chapter Executive Director Ron Stepanek, PGA; PGA Career Consultant Martha Wells, PGA; current District IV Director Tim Fries, PGA and NYSGA Executive Director Bill Moore.

Stepanek said the important points to the presentation included a call to action for the Section as a whole regarding: working together to collaborate as allied associations with the Empire State Association; lobbying for ergonomic issues; helping golf superintendents succeed; the importance of communication between PGA Members and golf superintendents and being more involved with or join the GCSAANY.

The Membership Engagement breakout session featured CNY PGA President William Weimer, CNY PGA Honorary President Rich Chapman, PGA and PGA Director of Recruitment Chris Kulinski, PGA. With digital feedback from Members, Weimer led the open dialogue to discuss how the Section can improve in certain areas.

At the start of the meeting, PGA REACH Central New York Executive Director Joey Tesori, PGA presented Dave Bartell a check to Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital for $27,225, thanks to the success of the inaugural PGA REACH CNY Birdie Bash.

The Fall Meeting also featured a toy drive for PGA REACH CNY. The toys will be donated to the Syracuse Police Athletic/Activities League.
