Jim Hirsh is sitting in first place after the first two rounds of the 69th annual Apogee Investment Management Championship presented by DeFrancisco and Falgiatano Personal Injury Lawyers are now completed.
Hirsh carded a 2-under-par 69 at Cazenovia Country Club on June 6 to take over the tournament’s top spot at 6-under 136 overall. First round leader Mitchell Archer is two shots behind Hirsh at 4-under 138.
Second-round play was suspended for two hours due to unplayable course conditions caused by rain. But the weather delay didn’t seem to derail Hirsh, who recorded an eagle on No. 15, three birdies and three bogeys at Cazenovia CC.
Hirsh carded a 4-under 67 in the first round of the 72-hole tournament at Green Lakes State Park Golf Course on June 5. Last season, Hirsh won the New York State Men’s Amateur Four Ball at Turning Stone Resort Casino with Bill Virkler.
Hirsh and Archer were among the players to advance to the second round as the field was cut to the top 64 including ties.
Archer, who completed his freshmen men’s golf season at Adelphi University last month, was the first-round medalist with a 5-under 66. Archer was named the Northeast-10 Conference Men’s Golf Player and Rookie of the Year last month.
Defending champion John Duthie stayed in the title hunt with a 2-under 69 at Cazenovia CC. Duthie is in third place, only three shots back of Hirsh.
The second round cut line was 9-over 151. The AIM tournament field was reduced to 32 including ties. Those 32 players will play the final two rounds at Tuscarora Golf Club and Yahnundasis Golf Club.
