PGA of America Associate Matt Campbell (Teugega CC) continued his dominant 2026 season with a victory at the Central New York PGA Assistant’s Championship at Cavalry Club, earning his seventh win of the season with a two-round total of 4-under par.
After a first round start at 5-under par, Campbell said the wind picked up and he was just doing his best to stay consistent the second round. “I just played smarter, with the wind picking up I just clubbed up and played to the center of the green kind of thing.”
Campbell’s victory continues an extraordinary stretch of consistency, as he has finished as the low professional in every start this season. Despite a busy schedule and little sleep with a 6 week old baby at home, Campbell has continued to deliver when he tees it up, adding another championship to an already impressive 2026 campaign.
Campbell adds that having a son has taken a bit of the pressure off of his golf game as now there are more important things. He says he’s been playing smarter “I’m aggressive when I can be, if driver’s going well I have a lot of wedges going in and that’s my strength.”
The Assistant’s Championship determines the representatives for the National PGA Assistant Championship this November at PGA Golf Club. Jonny Petrin (Cavalry Club) finished runner-up at even par for the first alternate spot alongside Josh Marshall (+5, Tuscarora GC) and Parker Williamson at (+6, Cortland CC), all three earning alternate positions.
