With rounds of 64 and 65, Christian Chapman successfully defended his Golf Max Central New York Open title at Drumlins Country Club on July 1.
“It’s exciting to win again,” Chapman said. “It’s a big confidence builder going forward for me.”
Chapman, 25, mastered the Drumlins course and led from start to finish for his second professional win. He finished at 13-under-par 129 which included two eagles, one on the par-5 No. 13 in the first round and the other on the par-5 first hole in the second round.
Chapman held a one-stroke lead after the first round over professional Anthony Cavotta, who shot 65. Chapman extended his lead in the second round for a five-stroke win over Cavotta (8-under 134).
“My game felt pretty good,” Chapman said. “I put myself in a lot of really good positions. The putter got hot which is what you need in order to score well.”
Chapman grew up in Victor, NY. He lives in West Palm Beach, Fla., for most of the year but returns to the Rochester area in the summer. Chapman said he enters 20-25 professional events a year and competes in the Minor League Golf Tour in Florida.
Skaneateles native and two-time AIM champion Jeremy Sisson, who turned professional, finished tied for third at (68-67—135) with amateur Jack Angelucci.
For the second straight year, Angelucci was the top amateur finisher with rounds of 66 and 69. In 2022, Angelucci finished tied for second. Last month, Angelucci won his second career Gerry Ashe Memorial title.
The CNY Open, which is open to amateurs and professionals, is one of the majors on the Central New York PGA schedule.
