Kevin Morgan, PGA works diligently to make sure all players – members and guests alike – enjoy their golf experience at Cortland Country Club.

To that end, Morgan and his course has a busy summer ahead as Cortland CC will host some prestigious events including the Central New York PGA Assistant Players Championship on June 24 and the Golf Max CNY Open Championship on July 18.

Here’s what he had to say about the balancing act needed to be a successful golf professional and what’s on the horizon this season.

What is the most important aspect of your job?

Providing members and their guests with the best overall experience we can. Having a great staff and training them properly to ensure we give members and guests the best golf experience.

What is your biggest challenge as golf professional?

Work-life balance. During the summer months when the club gets very busy it is very important make sure we make time to be with family and friends.  For me finding time for my family is imperative.  Making sure we have a great staff helps in organizing our schedules so we all get some time with family and friends or to just recharge for upcoming events. (Last year Morgan took his two assistants to Oakhill at the end of the season as a thank you for the year.)

What do you enjoy most about being a PGA Professional?

It sounds repetitive but providing that great golf experience and running golf tournaments. From purchasing something in the golf shop to the lesson tee to overseeing the flow of tee times on the first tee or announcing tournament players on the first tee, I want to do whatever I can to make sure our members and guests have a great time at our facility. I also thoroughly enjoy the tournament process. From the planning stages to the final stages. I like seeing the success of a well-run golf tournament.
