VERONA, N.Y. – Under sunny skies and comfortable late-summer conditions, the Central New York PGA Section Championship teed off Monday on the Shenendoah course at Turning Stone Resort Casino. Defending champion Dennis Colligan of Cazenovia Golf Club set the pace, carding a 3-under-par 69 to grab the first round lead.

Colligan’s round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 10th hole and a closing birdie on the 18th, helping him edge into first place as he looks to defend his 2024 title.

Just one shot back at 2-under 70 are Nick Serafino (Timber Banks Golf Club & Marina) and Mark Tucker (Cazenovia Country Club), keeping the leaderboard tight heading into Round 2.

Rounding out the top five, Ryan Evans (Binghamton Country Club) and Matthew Jaynes (Corning Country Club) sit even par at 72.

The championship field features many of Central New York’s top PGA Professionals, all competing not only for the Section title but also a chance to qualify for the PGA Professional National Championship.
