For Lauren Cupp, the championship hardware just keeps piling up this summer.
Over the past four weeks, Cupp captured her second career New York State Women’s Mid-Amateur title followed by winning her sixth career U.S. Speedgolf crown. Cupp can add repeating as the overall Women’s Apogee Investment Management champion to her list of her recent trophies.
“I’ve played some pretty good golf this summer,” Cupp said.
Cupp (Rome Country Club) won her seventh career AIM championship with back-to-back rounds of 76. The first round was held at Crestwood Golf Club followed by the final round Aug. 14 at McConnellsville Golf Club.
“This feels great,” Cupp said. “It’s really awesome. This is one of my favorite events of the whole summer. To come away with a win is pretty sweet.”
Kamryn Yerman, the first-round co-leader with Cupp, and Ellie Kent finished tied for second, two shots behind Cupp at 10-over-par 154.
Cupp got off to a shaky start at McConnellsville with a double-bogey on the first hole. But she regrouped and carded a 4-over 76 en route to victory.
“I made an absolute mess of No. 1 with a short game debacle,” Cupp said. “But I was proud of the way I held it together after that.”
Shelley Kron provided a memorable tournament highlight with her first career hole-in-one on the par-3 14th hole.
The 36th annual Women’s AIM Championship handed out trophies in four different divisions. Winners included:
