Michael Deuel defeated Ryan McGinnis in a playoff to capture the 2020 Central New York PGA Stroke Play Championship on July 20 at Mark Twain Golf Club in Elmira.

Deuel (En-Joie GC) sank a putt for par on the first playoff hole over McGinnis (Turning Stone) to earn his second career Stroke Play title. The pair finished tied at 5-under 136 after 36-holes.

Deuel won the event in 2017 when it was held at Mark Twain.

The Stroke Play Championship, sponsored by the PGA Tour and Omega, is the second CNY PGA major of the season and worth double points in the Bradley’s Jewelers Player of the Year standings.

Deuel led all players after the morning round with a 3-under 69 with McGinnis and four-time champion Dennis Colligan (Cazenovia GC) one stroke behind at 70.

Deuel carded a 2-under 70 in the afternoon round while McGinnis fired a 3-under 69 including four birdies against three bogeys on the back nine.

Heading into the final two holes of regulation, McGinnis held a one-stroke lead. Both players birdied the 17th hole but McGinnis bogeyed 18 to finish tied with Deuel at 5-under.

Colligan finished third at 145. Defending champion Eric Manning placed fourth at 146.
