PGA of America Golf Professional Tim Hume and his McConnellsville Golf Club team took top honors at the Central New York PGA’s annual Pro-Lady Tournament on July 29 at Lakeshore 1860.
Hume shot a 5-under-par 67 to lead all players. He carded eight birdies against three bogeys on the day.
The McConnellsville’s foursome of Hume, Patricia Hume, Susan Calandra and Nikki Walker took first place in the team event with 24-under 120 total. The tournament format was Team Net Best Ball.
“We had fun,” Hume said. “We struggled to start. We had no idea where we were (in the standings). But it worked out.”
With a shotgun start, Team McConnellsville started on hole 12. Hume made par on his first four holes. He then carded four straight birdies to get his team moving in the right direction.
This is Hume’s first season at McConnellsville. A year ago, Hume was the Director of Golf at Plantation on Crystal River Golf Club. He is a certified PGA HOPE Instructor and a certified Callaway Golf club fitter. Hume, 62, is a native of Williamsville.
“An opportunity came up at McConnellsville and I accepted,” Hume said.
The event drew 29 teams featuring one PGA of America Member or Associate and three female amateur players.
Cazenovia Golf Club’s Dennis Colligan came in second on the individual leaderboard with a 3-under 69. Colligan had the highlight of the day with a hole-in-one on the 167-yard eighth hole using an 8-iron.
Four players tied for third at 1-under 71: Trey Walewski (Meadowbrook GC), defending champion Jay Turcsik (Mark Twain GC), Robert Larsen (Onondaga G&CC) and Michael Deuel (En-Joie GC).
Brittany Siechen Wowelko (CNY PGA Section) was the top female professional with a 79.
The Cavalry Club had two teams tie for second place at 21-under 123. They were:
