The Central New York PGA Section is pleased to welcome Sophia Ferris and Ian as interns for the 2024 summer season.

Ferris, 20, is a rising senior at SUNY Cortland. She is majoring in Physical Education and grew up playing golf with her family. She is the granddaughter of Dave Ferris, PGA (Timber Banks).

Ferris, the recipient of a 2023 Central New York PGA Scholarship, also played golf for the Jamesville-DeWitt girls team from 7th-12th grade and also played at Cazenovia

College on the men’s team for a year before the college closed. At Cortland, Ferris is on the club volleyball team.

“My favorite part about golf is being able to get outside on nice days and to play with my family and friends,” Ferris said.

Ferris, who hopes to coach golf and/or volleyball after college, will be assisting the Section in a variety of ways including social media posts and producing the monthly newsletters.

“I’m looking forward to meeting new people (working as an intern) and gaining new experiences while being involved in the sport in a different aspect than a player,” Ferris said.

Delpha, 19, is also a Jamesville-DeWitt graduate where he played lacrosse, basketball and golf. Delpha is a rising sophomore at SUNY Geneseo majoring in business administration. He is also on the Knights lacrosse team.

Among Delpha’s duties will be to help out at events including pre-tournament prep work, on-site set up and post-event scoring.

“I’m looking forward to gaining new experiences and learning a lot working with the CNY PGA” Delpha said. “Also, it’s great being able to be around the game even more since it is something I enjoy.”

Delpha is hoping to have a sports-related professional career in the business world and someday run his own company.
