Jeff Reader defeated Eric Manning by two strokes to win the 2022 Central New York PGA Stroke Play Championship on Aug. 29 at Mark Twain Golf Course in Elmira.

 

The Stroke Play Championship is one of the CNY PGA’s major tournaments and worth double points in the Rolex Player of the Year standings as well as double points for the M. Lemp Jewelers Cup.

 

Reader (Cazenovia Golf Club) shot a 3-under-par 69 in the morning to grab the first-round lead with Jay Turcsik (Mark Twain), who also fired a 69.

 

Reader stayed atop the leaderboard during the afternoon session and secured the win with an eagle on the 465-yard, par-5 17th hole. He carded a 1-under 71 in the final round and finished the tournament at 4-under 140.

 

FINAL RESULTS

 

Manning (Elm Tree GC), the reigning CNY PGA Player of the Year, made a serious run at the top spot in the afternoon round, firing a 5-under 67 with two eagles, two birdies and a bogey. He finished at 2-under 142.

 

Reader won $1,500 for first. 2019 champion Manning earned a runner-up paycheck of $1,250.

 

Matt Jaynes (Corning CC), last year’s runner-up, placed third (71-72—143).

Hill N Dale’s Mel Baum (144) was fourth.
