After graduating Le Moyne College a month ago, Anthony Maglisco’s post-college plans include playing a lot of golf including the Apogee Investment Management Championship.

Maglisco, a four-year member of the Le Moyne men’s golf team, got his summer tournament season off to a strong start by firing a 4-under-par 67 to earn first round medalist honors Thursday at Green Lakes State Park Golf Course.

“I was hitting it really good for most of the day,” said Maglisco, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. “I was just trying to stay patient and keep it in play. You can make a lot of birdies on this course. But you can also make a double-bogey in about two seconds.”

Maglisco finished with an eagle, five birdies against three bogeys. He carded three of his five birdies on the back nine. His eagle was on the par-4 14th hole.

Maglisco gave Le Moyne men’s golf coach Joe Tesori, PGA credit for elevating his game. He finished his senior year with Northeast Conference men’s golf All-Conference Second Team honors.

“He transformed my game for sure,” Maglisco said. “There’s no doubt I learned a lot from him.”

LEADERBOARD

The top 64 players and ties advanced to Friday’s second round at Cortland Country Club. The first round cut fell at 81 for the 70th annual AIM Championship presented by DeFrancisco and Falgiatano Personal Injury Lawyers.

One stroke behind Maglisco is Mitchell Archer at 3-under 68. Archer, a rising junior at Adelphi University and a member of the men’s golf team, said wise course management helped him stay away from big numbers at Green Lakes. He carded an eagle on hole 9, five birdies and three bogeys.

“I always made the play I felt most comfortable with,” the 20-year-old Archer said. “I was hitting my 2-iron great, which is my go-to club. I also got a lot of putts to fall on the front.”

Alex Town is in third at 2-under 69.

Defending champion Jim Hirsh finished at 4-over 75. Other notable players advancing to the second round are 2024 champ John Duthie (70) and five-time champion Luke Hobika.
