Chris Quilty made a bold move in the second round of the Apogee Investment Management Championship on Friday.
Quilty carded four birdies and played bogey-free golf at Cortland Country Club to leap into a tie for third with a 4-under-par 68. His round was significantly better than his 75 in the first round at Green Lakes State Park Golf Course.

Chris Quilty readies for a putt in the second round of the AIM Championship.
“I hit the ball well today,” said Quilty, who is even-par 143 for the 72-hole tournament.
Anthony Maglisco remained atop the leaderboard. The recent Le Moyne College graduate shot a 1-under 71 at Cortland and is 5-under 138 overall.
Maglisco has a three stroke lead heading into the third round. Mitchell Weigand shot a 2-under 70 (2-under 141) and moved into second place. Quilty is among five other golfers tied at 143 including former champions Luke Hobika, John Duthie, Spencer Baum and Andrew Brunozzi.
After two rounds, the top 32 players and ties move on to play the weekend the 70th annual AIM Championship presented by DeFrancisco and Falgiatano Personal Injury Lawyers.
The cutline fell at 9-over 152 with players advancing to Tuscarora Golf Club for the third round and Oswego Country Club for the final round.
Quilty attributed his improved second round to better putting. Unlike Thursday, Quilty sank a number of short putts at Cortland.
“I didn’t make any putts yesterday,” Quilty said. “Today, I made five-, six- and seven-foot putts for par and had some for birdie I hit the driver pretty well too. I don’t think I missed one or two fairways.”
Quilty is looking forward to playing on his home course for the third round.
“I haven’t played a lot there this year,” he said. “But hopefully I can put together a good round and see where that puts me for the final day.”

Anthony Maglisco
Maglisco said poor putting got the better of him at Cortland. But the 22-year-old salvaged an under par round that included an eagle on No. 16.
“I can’t miss any more putts than I did today,” Maglisco said.
With an 8-over 151, defending champion Jim Hirsh is among the players to advance to the weekend.
