PGA of America Golf Professional Eric Manning added another chapter to his remarkable Central New York PGA legacy Tuesday, capturing his eighth CNY PGA Section Championship at Atunyote Golf Course at Turning Stone Resort Casino.
Manning (Elm Tree Golf Course) carded a 36-hole total of 136, 8-under-par, finishing six shots clear of the field. His victory was highlighted by an incredible stretch of 35 consecutive holes without a bogey, allowing him to build a commanding lead and cruise to another Section Championship title. Manning earned $3,700 for the win.
“It’s my favorite tournament of the season” says Manning. “I’m not sure why I have so much success in it, I just enjoy playing in it”. Manning credits figuring out his putting as to why he was able to go 35 holes without a bogey this week.
Manning’s championship résumé spans three different decades. Prior to this victory, he captured the Section Championship in 2022 at Thendara Golf Club, 2021 at Timber Banks, 2020 at Seven Oaks, 2018 at Teugega Golf Club, 2012 at Turning Stone Resort Casino, and back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007 at Shenendoah Golf Club.
Manning currently serves as Secretary for the Central New York PGA, and will be celebrating his win as he heads to Frisco, Texas first thing tomorrow for National Meetings.
In a tie for second place, Ryan McGinnis and Zach Vinal both carded a 2-under par 142. McGinnis was the only other round under par today, jumping him three spots up the leaderboard.
Manning, McGinnis and Vinal all earned a spots to compete in the 59th PGA Professional Championship April 25th-28th at Streamsong Golf Resort in Bowling Green FL.
