PGA of America Golf Master Professional and Hall of Famer Michael Doctor earned another career honor as he will be inducted into the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame this fall. The announcement was made June 17 at a press conference at Driver’s Village.
“I am incredibly honored to be inducted into the 2026 class of the Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame,” Doctor said on his Facebook page. “I am humbled and proud of this recognition as I continue the work of making golf accessible and fun to people of Syracuse.”

Doctor has been a PGA member since 1979. He also was the Head Professional and Director of Golf at Skaneateles Country Club for 33 years.
Doctor attained Master Professional status, the highest honor a PGA of America Professional can receive in 1979 and was only the second individual in Central New York PGA Section history to do so. In 2015 he was inducted into the National PGA Hall of Fame.
His focus has always been on growing the game — particularly juniors and women — while overseeing all aspects of the golf business. Over decades, Doctor has taught thousands of Central New Yorkers to play better and appreciate the game more.
“I have enjoyed the privilege of volunteering my time and passion to teaching Inner City youth, working with veterans, and teaching men and women of all abilities throughout Central NY,” he said on Facebook.
His GSSHOF induction is the latest career honor for Doctor. Among his countless awards include 2007 National PGA Bill Strausbaugh Award, for mentoring others within the Association, 2009 CNY PGA Hall of Fame inductee, 2013 National PGA Golf Professional of the Year, 1991 and 2012 CNY PGA Golf Professional of the Year. Doctor served multiple terms on the national PGA Board of Directors and as President of the CNY Section.
Doctor will be inducted Oct. 26, 2026 with fellow Class of 2026 members John Hohm (XC/Track); Carol Stanley (Softball); Dr. Bruce Baker (Rowing/Athletic Administration); Rob Drummond (Football); Tommy Tanner (Soccer); Frank Colabufo (Ice hockey) and Team of Honor: 1972 ESM Football.
Congratulations Michael!
