Central New York PGA members Ryan McGinnis, PGA and Marty Nowicki, PGA were among the speakers at the Upstate New York PGA Golf and Leadership Summit on March 4. The event took place at Turning Stone Resort Casino.

 

The Summit was coordinated by the joint PGA of America Regional Education Committees (CNY PGA, Western New York PGA and Northeastern New York PGA). The goal was to offer a unique day-long experience designed to merge golf instruction and principles of effective leadership at a local section level. The Summit was open to PGA of America Members and non-PGA members.

 

 

McGinnis, who earned CNY PGA Teacher and Coach of the Year honors in 2024, gave a presentation on Decade Golf. He gave an overview on the golf strategy that combines shot distribution patterns and scoring statistics for more effective course management and better scoring as a result.

 

McGinnis’ latest instructional honor came in January when he was named among the Golf Range Association of America Top 100 Growth of the Game Teaching Professional. McGinnis also won the GRAA Top 100 honor last year.

 

Nowicki’s presentation topic was green reading, line and speed control for putting. Nowicki, one of the most highly sought after and decorated teaching PGA Professionals in the area, is a certified AIM Point instructor. He earned CNY PGA Teacher and Coach of the Year in 2022.

 

The Summit’s key note presenter was Aaron Davis (AD/Attitude Over Everything). Davis is a professional speaker, radio co-host, published author, and cancer survivor. Davis is former national champion football player with the 1994 Nebraska Cornhuskers.

 

Davis discussed leadership and team work based on his personal journey and experiences. Drawing from his experience, he shared powerful insights and strategies that empower individuals.

 

Anders Mattson, PGA, was the other speaker. He talked about Competitive Junior Golf Curriculum and Trackman Training.

 

Mattson reviewed a comprehensive junior golf experience used at the Academy for skill development using state of the art technology. Mattson is the owner and founder of Anders Mattson Golf, located at Saratoga Golf Studio in downtown Saratoga Springs, NY. He is a three-time Northeastern NY PGA Teacher of the Year (2014, 2015, 2017).
