Harlee Lucier’s lifelong passion for sports is helping her realize her professional goals.
As a former college soccer player and former Social Media Intern with the Northern Texas PGA, Lucier’s athletic background influenced her career path.
“I believe being surrounded by sports growing up has helped me with my golf journey, simply due to athletes being able to connect to athletes,” Lucier said. “In the golf industry, you are always working as part of a team and teamwork is a big factor, which was very familiar to me because of soccer.”
This spring, Lucier returned to her native Syracuse to continue her professional journey as the 2025 PGA REACH CNY WORKS Fellow. She is looking forward to expanding her knowledge of the behind-the-scenes work in the golf industry.
“I hope to be able to learn from the staff at the CNY PGA who have been in the industry in all different aspects and to learn and grow with their guidance,” she said.
Lucier, 22, brings a wealth of experience to her new role with the Section. Lucier entered the golf industry as a traveling communications intern with the AJGA, covering junior golf events across the West Coast. She then earned an internship with the Northern Texas PGA, where she served as a social media intern.
Lucier’s many talents include finding creative ways to showcase athletes and events by using the CNY PGA’s digital platforms. Her favorite platform is TikTok.
It’s always changing and having your algorithm curated to you is amazing,” she said. “I think the trends that I find on it are always one of my favorite things to create.”
Lucier played women’s soccer at Purchase College before transferring to Utica University where she a member of the Pioneers soccer team. She graduated in 2024 with a BS in Communications and Media.
“I originally went to college to study journalism with the intent to write for the New York Times,” Lucier said. “I enjoyed it but knew through coaching that I was drawn to the face pace work place in the sports industry. I then transferred to study sports communications and media, which naturally led me to social media, and ever since, I have fallen in love with it and can’t see myself pursuing anything else.”
Lucier’s long-term professional goal is to be a social media manager or director of a soccer team or for the LPGA Tour. Here’s what else Lucier has to say about her fellowships and interests:
What she learned did you learn with the Northern Texas PGA that is helping you today: You’ll get as much out of it as you decide to put into it. Ask the questions and stay a little longer on course to see everything that’s wrapping up. Talk to everyone, make those connections, because you never know who you are talking to. I learned a lot about specific social media things and gained a lot of independence in my content creation, which is very helpful at CNY PGA.
Favorite part about golf: My favorite part about golf from a social media perspective is that I am able to connect more and be a lot closer with the players than you would with a team sport. Outside of that, my favorite part is how people of all ages and backgrounds are able to come together and play!
Favorite thing to do when not working: When not working, I enjoy traveling, working out, and being outdoors.
Goals during her time with the CNY PGA: I think just learning as much as I can from the staff here and making the most of my time!
