Dick’s House of Sport in Johnson City awarded PGA REACH Central New York a grant of $5,000 in support of the Syracuse City PGA Jr. League program for 2024.

The official check presentation took place at the Johnson City Dick’s location Jan. 30. The grant is a part of Dick’s Foundation Sports Matter Program which focuses on helping youth sports programs.

Present for the presentation was Don Zorn, PGA REACH Central New York, and from the Dick’s House of Sport, Johnson City team were: Ryan Comstock, Golf Sales Lead; Ryan Evans, PGA of America Golf Professional; Callie Stillman, Marketing and Events Manager; and Joe Roberge, Master Club Fitter. Unable to attend was Mike Wenner, Dick’s House of Sport Community Director.

Evans nominated the Syracuse City PGA Jr. League program last August.

“I thought the Syracuse City PGA Jr. League program would be a perfect organization to benefit from the grant,” Evans said. “PGA REACH CNY does a great job in reaching out to military and veterans through PGA HOPE but it also does a good job with the PGA Jr. League.”

Evans understands the value of introducing golf to a younger generation. Last September, he introduced a one-day mother/child golf clinic at Dick’s House of Sport. The clinic drew six mother/child tandems. Evans is planning another mother/child clinic in May.

In addition to working with young players, Evans, a PGA HOPE certified instructor, instituted a PGA HOPE six-week clinic for Veterans last fall.
