For the second straight year, Jeff Reader won the Central New York PGA Players Championship while Dennis Colligan captured the Head Professional Championship on Sept. 19-20 at Thendara Golf Club. The annual tournaments were held concurrently and were sponsored by Satch Sales and the PGA Tour.
Reader and Colligan, both from Cazenovia Golf Club, needed three playoff holes to determine the Players Championship. The pair finished tied at 2-under-par 142.
Reader and Colligan remained tied after both recorded a bogey on the first hole. The duo stayed tied when both made par on No. 2.
Reader won it on the par-4 No. 3 after two-putting for par while Colligan made bogey.
Reader shot rounds of 70 and 72 in the Players Championship. The victory earned Reader $1,100 as well as double Rolex Player of the Year points.
Colligan earned $950 for second in the Players and $600 for his Head Professional win.
Colligan claimed the Head Professional Championship with a 4-under 68. His round featured five straight birdies on the front and an eagle on No. 10.
The Head Professional event for PGA Members who are A-1, A-4, or A-13 was an 18-hole tournament held Sept. 20.
Mark Tucker (Cazenovia Country Club) was second in the Head Pro with a 1-under 71. Tucker also finished third at 1-under 143 in the Players Championship.
Reader tied with Tony Saraceno (Genegantselt GC) and Eric Manning (Elm Tree GC) as the first-round medalists in the Players Championship with a 70.
