Jeff Reader and Dennis Colligan won the Players Championship and the Head Professional Championship, respectively, as the Central New York PGA Section events were held concurrently Sept. 20-21 at Thendara Golf Club. The annual tournaments were sponsored by Stamina Pro and 2Under.

 

Reader (Cazenovia Golf Club) led from start to finish after shooting rounds of 69 and 70 for a 5-under 139 in the Players Championship. The victory earned Reader $1,100 as well as double Omega Player of the Year points. Reader won his first career CNY PGA Senior title in July.

 

Colligan (Cazenovia Golf Club) claimed the Head Professional Championship by edging Bruce Martins (Elm Tree GC) in a playoff. Both Colligan and Martins finished tied at 3-under 69 in regulation.

 

Colligan birdied the second playoff hole to win the Head Professional competition.

 

The Head Professional event for PGA Members who are A-1, A-4, or A-13 was an 18-hole tournament held Sept. 21.

FINAL RESULTS

 

Reader was the first-round medalist in the Players Championship with a 69.

 

Two-time defending champion Mark Tucker finished second in the Players Championship with back-to-back rounds of 71 for a 2-under 142. He cashed $910. With his second place finish, Tucker secured Omega Section Player of the Year honors.

 

Rob Phelps (Bellevue CC) had a hole-in-one on Day 2 on hole No. 9.
