Ellie Secor and Mitchell Archer won their respective divisions at the third annual Apogee Investment Management Junior Championships on July 24. The first round of the 36-hole event for male and female junior players ages 12-18 was held at Sunset Ridge Golf Course and concluded at Drumlins Country Club.
The presenting sponsors for the Junior AIM Championship are Apogee Investment Management and DeFrancisco & Falgiatano, LLP. The 2023 AIM Junior Championship was originally scheduled for July 9-10 but were rescheduled because of rain.
Archer was tied for first with Carter Baum and Jason Clifton after the first round at Sunset Ridge with a 74. Archer, of Syracuse, fired a 72 at Drumlins in the final round and finished with a 3-over-146 total to win the boys championship.
Archer, who won the Syracuse District Junior Classic this summer, carded three birdies against two bogeys and a double bogey in the final round. He finished four strokes ahead of Baum, of Cortland, (74-76—150).
Archer is entering his senior year at Jamesville-DeWitt. He was named to the 2023 All-CNY Boys Golf Team this spring.
Gavin Howd, of Oriskany, finished third (152).
On the girls side, Secor, of Remsen, posted back-to-back rounds of 89 en route to winning the girls crown by two strokes over Kamryn Yerman, of Frankfort.
Secor is a rising sophomore at Remsen and was selected to the 2023 All-Mohawk Valley Girls Golf Team and the All-CNY Girls Golf Team.
Both Secor and Yerman qualified for the NYSPHSAA Girls Championship this past spring. Yerman, a rising sophomore at Sauquoit Valley, was the Section III individual girls champion. She was also named to the All-CNY team.
