The Central New York PGA Special Awards Committee determined the finalists for this year’s Special Awards. The winners in all categories will be revealed at the annual Section Holiday Party on Dec. 4.
All finalists have made noteworthy contributions to either the Section, among their peers or to the public in an effort to grow the game.
Below we recognized the achievements of the finalist in Youth Player Development, an award designed to recognize a Central New York PGA Golf Professional who is a leader in junior golf and reflects the qualities and ideals of those who work with our youth.
This year’s finalist for the Youth Player Development Award are:
Stan Lisk, PGA (Endwell Greens)
Stan has helped junior golfers play better and enjoy the game in a variety of ways. He has been a PGA Jr. League coach for several years and has given lessons to many high school and college players. Stan participates in the annual Pro Junior Tournament and he has also volunteered in the TCGA clinics at Links of Hiawatha and other courses.
Ruth Weydig, PGA (Oneida Community Golf Course)
An eight-time winner of this award, Ruth has offered numerous opportunities and experiences for junior golfers in her community. In addition to coaching PGA Jr. League teams, Ruth offers a golf camp and junior tournaments during the summer. Among her other activities, Ruth started a “Golf In Schools” Program for children in grades 2-6 and is a volunteer coach with the boys and girls golf teams at V-V-S High School.
