Nick Serafino defeated Matt Jaynes in a playoff to take home the 2021 Central New York PGA Stroke Play Championship on Aug. 30 at Wayne Hills Country Club in Lyons.
Serafino (Timber Banks CC) sank a birdie on the first playoff hole to earn the victory over Jaynes (Corning CC). The pair ended regulation tied at 3-under 141 after 36-holes.
The Stroke Play Championship is one of the CNY PGA’s majors and worth double points in the Bradley’s Jewelers Player of the Year standings.
Serafino shot a 3-under 69 in the morning round behind Eric Manning (Elm Tree GC), who led all players after the morning round with a 68.
Jaynes carded a 72 in the morning then fought his way up the leaderboard in the afternoon round. He pulled into a tie for the lead with birdies on 17 and 18 for a 69 while Serafino finished with birdie and par on those holes for a 72.
Serafino won $1,500 for first. Jaynes earned a runner-up paycheck of $1,250.
Mark Tucker (Cazenovia CC) made a charge on the back nine with three birdies. But his par on 18 left him one stroke out of first at 2-under 142. 2012 champion Tucker (73-69) finished tied for third with 2019 champion Manning (68-74).
