Jones named Golf Professional of the Year

Dustin Jones, Owner of Beacon Golf Center and the Dustin Jones Golf

Academy, has been named 2019 Central New York PGA Golf Professional of the Year. The highest honor paid to a CNY PGA professional went to Jones for his overall performance at his facility, level of service to the PGA, leadership ability, image and ability to inspire fellow professionals and promotion of golf.

Jones credits his ability to become an owner operator to his time spent working in various roles at Turning Stone Resort Casino and the Yahnundasis Golf Club. He built his knowledge and learned every facet of the golf industry at these two stops. Now that he is on his own, his work ethic and passion for player development are on full display. He has created a welcoming and inclusive environment for golfers of all skill levels to come out and enjoy the great game of golf. His jovial nature and commitment to his craft has made him an integral part of the local golfing community.

Education has always been at the forefront on Jones’ success. He became a PGA member in 2009 and shortly thereafter obtained Certified Professional status in Golf Operations. He is a certified US Kids Coach and PGA Coach. He is always looking unique ways to build upon what he has already learned about the golf swing. He has excelled as an instructor and club fitter earning a reputation as being one of the best. His background as a teaching instructor affords him the ability to make the game more fun for all generations.

As a member of the Central New York PGA Jones is currently serving as a member of the Board of Directors. During his tenure he has been Chairperson of several committees including the Assistants, Education, Special Awards and Special Events. Jones has also been recipient of several section awards including being named the 2010 and 2011 Assistant of the Year. In 2016 Jones was the section’s Teacher of the Year and Horton Smith award winner for contributions in education. In 2017 he received the Bill Strausbaugh Award for contributions in mentorship. He is also a four-time Merchandiser of the Year award recipient.
