The team of Trey Walewski and Mark Tucker chalked up four match play victories en route to winning the Kless Meyers Golf Pro-Pro Match Play Tournament held Sept. 5 at Owasco Country Club.

Walewski (Meadowbrook GC) and Tucker (Cazenovia CC) defeated Matt Alm (Owasco CC) and Kyle Siegel (Beaver Meadows GC) in the championship match, 2-up.

“It’s easier to play well when you know you have a partner like Mark backing you up,” Walewski said. “Mark is not only a great player but even a better person and friend.”

MATCH PLAY RESULTS

A full field of 16 teams competed in the event on a 90-degree day.

Walewski said the head did not bother him or Tucker as they were mindful to stay hydrated on a day where the heat index hit the mid-90s.

Walewski and Tucker’s first match play win came against the tournament sponsors, Phil Kless and Andy Meyers (Sunset Ridge/Lyndon GC), 3&2.

Walewski and Tucker also defeated Steve Nacewicz (Crestwood GC) and Will Wiemer (Stone Creek GC), 4&3, and Ryan McGinnis (Turning Stone Resort Casino) and Kevin McCarthy (Timber Banks), 2-up, to get to the championship match.

Alm and Siegel’s road to the final featured a shootout victory in the first round Joey Tesori and Alan Seamans (both of the CNY Section).

Teams who lost in their first-round match played in the Consolation Bracket. Ryan Lantz and David Horn (both of Elmira CC) won the Consolation Bracket over Jamie Sindelar (RaNic GC) and Steve Volpicelli (Soaring Eagles), 1-up.
