Will Braxton emerged from a tight leader board in the final round to claim the overall title at the Central New York PGA Junior Open on May 5. The 36-hole event was held at Seven Oaks Golf Course at Colgate on May 4 and the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell on May 5.
Seven players were in the mix for the title at the RTJ course but Braxton prevailed with a 2-over-par 146. Six players finished tied for second at 3-over 147. They were Max Dec, Spencer Baum, Matt Barton, Johnny Gruninger, Nick Bove and Dan Ames.
Braxton shot a 2-under 70 at Seven Oaks and entered the final round tied with Baum and Dec, who also carded a 70 in the first round. Braxton finished with a 4-over 76 at RTJ including an eagle on the par-4, 407-yard 16th hole.
Baum also had an eagle on the fifth hole (par-5, 466-yard) at Seven Oaks.
Ames earned medalist honors in the final round with an even-par 72.
Abigail Ainsworth was the overall girls champion (83-90—173).
