PGA REACH Central New York is committed to furthering The PGA of America’s efforts of becoming more inclusive through PGA WORKS.
PGA WORKS is a strategic initiative, designed to diversify the golf industry’s workforce. Funded by PGA REACH and in partnership with PGA Sections, PGA WORKS leverages fellowships, scholarships, career exploration events, and the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship to inspire and engage talent from diverse backgrounds to pursue key employment positions across the golf industry.
Through PGA REACH Central New York Pro-Am fundraising efforts, we seek to have one CNY-based PGA WORKS Fellowship in place no later than the 2024 calendar year.
The PGA WORKS Fellowship provides the opportunity for a one-year, paid immersion in a PGA Section’s Foundation operations. This entry-level employment experience offers a taste of what a career in the golf industry can provide.
Typical PGA WORKS Fellowship Applications open in the Fall/Winter each year.
The PGA WORKS John & Tamara Lundgren Scholars Program awards a scholarship amount of $8,000 each to students from historically underrepresented backgrounds pursuing a PGA Golf Management University Program degree at one of 18 accredited educational institutions. These students earn their bachelor’s degree in a golf industry compatible major, have the ability to apply for PGA Membership, and earn the right to wear one of the most recognized logos in sports. Since 2018, we have provided 47 scholarships equaling $376,000.
In an effort to expand our reach beyond member tournaments, our Section introduced the Central New York PGA Women’s Association in 2020. The CNYPGAWA offers tournaments exclusive to amateur women golfers. The goal is of the CNYPGAWA is to give players of all levels competitive opportunities and experiences.
